Since 2014, the co-op of Kokowagayo (Koperasi Kopi Wanita Gayo) has been striving to empower women coffee farmers in the Bener Meriah district in Aceh Province, Indonesia. The co-op's long-term vision is to realize a prosperous life for women coffee farmers through the management of cooperatives that are democratic, transparent, non-0discriminitpory, and environmentally sound. Currently, there are 400+ farmers from 8 villages that partner with Kokowagayo to produce this coffee. The women of the co-op take part in all aspects of the coffee's cultivation, from the opening of the farm all the way to exporting. Kokowagayo is committed to fair & sustainable practices and carries this focus to all parts of their business.
10% of each purchase will be donated to YAYASAN BUMI SEHAT, a group of clinics across Indonesia that offers a comprehensive range of allopathic and holistic medicine, as well as pre and post-natal care, breastfeeding support, infant, child, and family health services, nutritional education, prenatal yoga, and gentle, loving natural birth services. Currently, they are raising money to train midwives to the updated standards set in place by the government.
